Before we start, I want to explain that there is a compounding effect that is created on the body from chronic stress.
Stress negatively impacts the health of our gut.
The gut responds from stress with various issues (listed below)
These digestive issues then create more stress on the body.
The adrenals suffer and start malfunctioning (called adrenal fatigue)
Let start with the gut.
STRESS AND GUT HEALTH
It probably won’t shock you that excessive stress can negatively affect your gut and microbiota (I believe it is one of the largest influences on our digestive health).
How does it do this?
Gut damage (leaky gut)
Decreased gut immunity (immune suppressed- long term)
These are problematic when there is chronic or long term stress.
The greatest cause of stress on the gut are:
DIET
LIFESTYLE
When you improve these, you can greatly decrease the amount of stress that is placed on your gut and heal from many of the issues listed above.
THE STRESS-GUT-ADRENAL FATIGUE CONNECTION
The adrenal glands malfunction as a DIRECT result of STRESS; therefore, the solution to adrenal fatigue is fixing the source of stress.
Some are obvious such as relationship stress, financial stress etc. Others are not as obvious such as lack of sleep, food intolerance and one major one, digestive stress.
After diet and lifestyle, the most common cause of stress on the body is the gut. So if you are struggling with the symptoms of adrenal fatigue (go back to part 1 of this series) there is no point in supporting the adrenals without first looking at the source of stress on the body.
DIET
LIFESTYLE
GUT HEALTH
Of course, you should read that list and think… ‘well, improving my diet and lifestyle will also improve my gut health’. So really they all go together and are pivotal pieces of recovering from adrenal fatigue.
WHY ARE GUT PROBLEMS SUCH A MAJOR SOURCE OF STRESS FOR THE BODY?
Inflammation - which can occur because of eating inflammatory foods or from bacterial/ fungal imbalances
Autoimmunity- brought on by problems in the small intestine (which is where most of our immune system is)
Nutrient malabsorption- damage to the gut can result in malabsorption of vital nutrients.
In order to recover from adrenal fatigue the focus should be first on gut health which then triggers questions around diet and lifestyle!
(see the diagram below)
Comment below what you feel is the main trigger of stress in your body! There could be one main thing or multiple things.
Next we will go into some practical steps you can take to heal from adrenal fatigue!
Have been making a switch and getting in heaps of veg and my body is thanking me. I started the love ya guts journey 3 weeks ago after having ulcers and major acid in my tummy. I felt lethargic and not myself, i was in pain and started to not eat much as i feared food upsetting my gut more. I chose not to go on antibiotics and to make a switch to a natural approach. I've never felt better! I've had some headaches but my gut feels amazing. My water intake has been at least 2ltrs with me working on upping to 4ltrs a day. I once drank alot of coffee and it limited my water intake. I love the emails educating me on gut health and what foods are good for gut health. I love learning what causes issues and can now educate my children better. Thank you love ya guts💖
I looooove this stuff!!! Honestly, hand on heart I've been taking the collagen, elixir and the MSM for about 3 weeks now and I've notice a big shift in my energy levels, skin and brain fog. I'd 100% recommend for everyone that needs the change they need in their lives 😍
I love the feel and moisturising effect of the tallow balm, it's really helping the dry skin on my hands. The only thing I don't love is the Tee Tree scent, would love a different scent option....lemon perhaps? :)
I've tried so many natural soaps, this one is the best yet by far. It's so smooth and silky, and really makes my skin feel moisturised and not at all dry like a lot of soaps do. Beautiful.
Have been taking these for one week now and already feel more energy. Seemed a lot at the very beginning, but doesn’t take long to get in a rhythm when to take everything. Have felt my intestines really pushing everything through properly, even after just one day! Even noticing my skin already improving, I’m feeling very positive about continuing with it. Also encourages me to drink more water, and the tea is really lovely too.
3 Weeks In and already I am feeling my mood and cravings stabilise. For the first time in a long time I can say that I am not bouncing between savoury and sweet food. I really like that the box is complete with instructions and everything you need is provided.
I have complex health issues so wasn't expecting miracles but have found a little more energy in the mornings and through the day and my skin is looking better. Definitely going to keep on with this and the fulvic drops :)
