Smashed grass-fed beef burger plates

 RECIPE FOR YOUR FUSSY TODDLERS & WHOLE FAMILY

Makes 8 burgers

Ingredients:

Burger
* Good quality minced beef
* Salt and pepper
* Tallow
* Add in the contents of a few of our desiccated organ capsules for some extra love (you can't taste it)

Potatoes
* 1 kg potatoes, diced
* 3 white onions, diced large
* 5 sprigs rosemary, chopped
* Sea salt and cracked pepper
* Olive oil

Trimmings and some ideas to help your toddler love these even more:
* Good quality cheddar cheese
* Lacto-fermented pickles or sauerkraut
* Fresh salad greens (debatable for toddlers, but some bitter greens are great for the adults)
* Burger sauce - we love mixing full-fat Greek yoghurt or sour cream with fermented hot sauce to taste.
* Gevity RX BBQ bone broth mayo is a winner
* smashed avo (add in some kefir for extra probiotics)
* some sourdough buns
* homemade relish

Method:
1. Mix all of the potato ingredients together and season generously and place in a preheated oven at 200c for about 40mins. Give them a shake half way through.

2. Season the mince and roll into 8 balls. Heat a cast iron frying pan and add tallow. Place in mince and use a potato smashed to smash the meat down. Fry till crispy and flip. Try not to over cook.

3. Serve the burgers with the roasted potatoes and all the trimmings of your choice.

TIPS TO HELP GET YOUR KIDS TO ENJOY THIS EVEN MORE

I know dinner time can be a little chaotic so here are some tips I use to help get our son involved with dinner and want to sit and eat at the dinner table.

- put all the trimmings on the table buffet style. Giving kids some independence to choose what they want helps them enjoy the food.
- Lead by example and make dinner time a family affair. If they see you putting all the things on your plate, they will likely follow. Perhaps not straight away but if you continue to show them they will get the idea.
- Let them choose what they want on the plate. Sometimes this could just be a pattie and some sauce.
- Ask questions at the dinner table, get them chatting and enjoying the time spent together
- Get them involved in the cooking process. I know this can make it a little slower and messy, but it is so good for motor skills and allowing the kids to be involved in the prep. For me, I usually would get will to flatten or roll the beef patties and smash the potatos.
- We say a prayer at the dinner table, but you could say what you are grateful for and go around the table.
- Eat dinner outside and if you struggle to get your toddlers to eat anything, (this goes against all the rules) but let them run around outside and play while doing dinner. You sit at the table and eat and enjoy watching them, trusting that they will come back and have a bite and then play again. Sometimes, sitting down at a table for a period of time is just too much for little ones.
- Chat about where the food came from or why it's on the plate. You will be surprised how much kids enjoy talking about the animals or where the cheese comes from ect.

Okay, I will leave you with those tips and hope they work for you!

Sending you all the patience that is needed at the dinner table.
